Spiritual Discernment

Vocation Discernment Opportunities:

For Men: Serra House

The Archdiocese of Toronto established Serra House in 1983 as a place of reflection and discernment for men considering a vocation to the priesthood.

Serra House offers a unique pre-seminary experience that fosters human and spiritual growth, in the company of others who are likewise considering a vocation. Over the years, the Archdiocese has been blessed with many vocations that have flourished with the assistance of Serra House. Through prayer, community living, and a realistic approach to the ministry, Serra House nourishes the qualities of readiness and openness necessary to discover Godís plan.

Serra House is conveniently located in central Toronto, within walking distance to many of the local institutions of learning, including the University of Toronto and the Toronto School of Theology. Students entering Serra House assume the financial responsibility for their education. If any student has financial concerns, he should speak with the Rector of Serra House. Financial assistance is available to students in need.

For Women: Stella Maris

Owned and operatedMary by the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood, Stella Maris was established in 1997 as a house of reflection and discernment for women. Stella Maris offers an oasis of quiet and prayer in order that one may hear "the still silent voice of God". The residence is located south of the Dupont subway and east of Spadina, in the "Annex". It is within walking distance, 20 minutes to an hour, to the core of the city.

Women living at Stella Maris continue their work or study outside the residence as they discern God's will in their life. We have common morning and evening prayer, common supper, scheduled recreation times and monthly house meetings. Women who desire to follow Jesus, to nurture their relationship with God and wish to live in a prayerful, supportive Catholic environment are welcome to apply as residents.
